Working Full Time

Working Full Time
by Danny Tariman

“Obey your human masters in everything, not only when being watched, as currying favor, but in simplicity of heart, fearing the Lord.” (Colossians 3:22)

It was a usual morning: routine 1-minute chat with staff as I go around the office, getting status of tasks assigned.

I noticed that one staff suddenly closed his mobile phone. From a distance, I can see him viewing the Facebook. His direct supervisor who was seated behind him, was not around. He quickly put his hands on his computer keyboard, sensing that I was about to go near to him.

Days before this moment, his supervisor reported to me that this staff does not work “full time”. He frequently checks his mobile device, usually doing something on Facebook. This has resulted to delays in completion of his tasks.

This reminds me of the Word of God: that as workers, we are supposed to “do what you’re told by your earthly masters. And don’t just do the minimum that will get you by. Do your best.” (Col 3:22 MSG)

We need to give our best! This means ensuring that we give the best quality output or result, finished on schedule if not earlier. Let us make our customers — both internal and external customers — happy!

Let us glorify the Lord through our work, by working full-time in our given tasks, and by giving our best!

Reflection: Do you give all your time and effort to the task assigned to you? Even when your boss is not around?

Prayer: Forgive me Lord for not giving my best in my work. Grant me the grace I need to glorify You in my workplace. Amen!
